Independence County knows how to do summer right. When the days get longer and the sun shines brighter, there are plenty of reasons to head outdoors. Stroll through downtown with a cold drink, then swap the sidewalk for a trail, the water, or a scenic drive.

The GREENWAY TRAIL is a go-to for walkers, runners, and cyclists. LYON COLLEGE has bluff-side hiking and biking trails, disc golf, ropes courses, and more. Gravel riders can explore endless miles of backroads. For off-road fun, GREASY BEND OFF-ROAD PARK has plenty of mud, bluffs, and great views of the White River. JAMESTOWN CRAG features 100+ climbing routes, miles of hiking trails, and beautiful sunsets.


When you need to cool down, visit the AQUATICS PARK or WEST SPLASH PARK. You can float, paddle, or fish on POKE BAYOU and the WHITE RIVER. Stop by POKE BAYOU OUTFITTERS for the gear and info you need for an adventure-filled day.

Summer here is about more than just adventure. Try the SWEET TREAT TRAIL, plan your own trip with the EXPERIENCE BUILDER App, shop on Main Street, enjoy live music or concerts, visit the OLD INDEPENDENCE REGIONAL MUSEUM, or see a movie at the historic MELBA THEATER. Join classes and programs at the BATESVILLE AREA ARTS COUNCIL and the INDEPENDENCE COUNTY LIBRARY. The COMMUNITY CALENDAR is always packed, so there are plenty of ways for everyone to enjoy culture, creativity, and small-town fun all season long.


Here, summer is more than a season. It is an invitation to step outside and make memories.
