King of the Crag
Climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from across the region will gather at Jamestown Crag on Saturday, October 10, for the 13th Annual King of the Crag rock climbing competition.
This grassroots fall tradition is part climbing competition, part community celebration and part reunion. The event brings together climbers, spectators, volunteers and outdoor enthusiasts for a weekend of climbing, camping and connection at one of Independence County’s most remarkable outdoor destinations.
Jamestown Crag features hiking trails, campsites and more than 100 climbing routes. During King of the Crag, competitors will test their skills across three divisions:
- Recreational: 5.6–5.9
- Advanced: 5.10–5.11A
- Rock God: 5.11B–5.13+
Scores will be based on each climber’s top five red-point climbs completed without falls or hanging. Additional routes will determine the winner in the event of a tie. Previous first-place winners in the Recreational or Advanced divisions must move up to the next division. Special King and Queen awards will also recognize the competitors who complete the most routes.
More than a competition, King of the Crag is an important fundraiser for the Jamestown Crag Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping the property free, protected and sustainably accessible for future generations. Every registration directly supports the care and preservation of this special outdoor space.
Whether you are climbing, cheering for competitors, volunteering or simply enjoying the atmosphere around the campfire, there is a place for you at the Crag.
