Batesville Named One of the South’s Best Small Towns for Third Consecutive Year

For the third year in a row, USA Today has named Batesville one of the Best Small Towns in the South — and now the community has the opportunity to claim the top spot.

Voting is open now through 11 a.m. on March 30, 2026, and supporters may vote once per day as Batesville competes against ten other Southern communities for the No. 1 ranking.

This latest honor builds on a growing list of recognitions. Batesville has previously been named a Top 25 City by USA Today and earned Best Small Town in the South honors in both 2024 and 2025. The community has also been recognized as a Trendsetter City by Arkansas Business, named one of the Best Places to Raise a Family in Arkansas by HomeSnacks, and selected as a Community of the Year finalist by Community Playmaker in 2025.

A Community Built on Momentum

Batesville’s recognition extends far beyond rankings. The city is home to award-winning schools, innovative locally owned businesses, and a growing network of parks, trails, and public spaces that enhance recreation and quality of life for families.

Downtown continues to thrive through the leadership of Main Street Batesville, earning statewide awards for historic preservation, economic vitality, and community-driven placemaking. These honors reflect Batesville’s commitment to preserving its character while encouraging growth and entrepreneurship along Main Street.

The city has also earned statewide and regional acclaim as the Christmas Capital of Arkansas®, which was named the Ozark Gateway Region’s Festival of the Year and a finalist for Attraction of the Year by the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism.

Recent groundbreaking ceremonies further underscore the city’s forward momentum, including a $25 million investment in recreation and a $110 million investment in water infrastructure improvements — transformational projects designed to support long-term growth without increasing taxes.

Tourism Driving Economic Impact

Tourism continues to fuel Batesville’s expansion and visibility. In 2025, more than 850,000 visitors traveled to Batesville — with 39 percent coming from out of state and representing all 50 states. Out-of-county visitors generated more than $450 million in economic impact for the local economy.

“I am thrilled to see Batesville recognized again as one of the best small towns in the South by USA Today,” said Crystal Johnson, CEO of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. “This honor underscores what we’ve known all along — Batesville is a gem of a community with endless possibilities.”

“I am incredibly proud of our community’s vibrant spirit and rich heritage,” said Rick Elumbaugh, Mayor of Batesville. “Being named one of the best small towns in the South is a testament to our residents’ hard work and dedication. Let’s rally together and showcase the warmth, vibrancy, and hospitality that make Batesville exceptional. Every vote counts — let’s bring this honor home.”

Residents and supporters are encouraged to vote daily through March 30 to help Batesville claim the top spot.
